McKnight Milling Company was incorporated and started doing business in 1985 on the McKnight family farm southeast of the small town of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas. Originally all types of rice, long grain, medium grain and specialty rice were milled and sold. In 1995 a decision was made to mill and sell only the variety of long grain rice known as Della. Della was developed by the rice breeders at Louisiana State University Rice Experiment Station in Crawley, Louisiana. It was developed from a type of Basmati rice grown in the Punjab province of India. The Basmati was crossed with local rice and developed over time. Della is an aromatic rice and when cooked produces the aroma of popcorn popping. It has the taste and flavor of butter and is very pleasant. Most rice has no taste and picks up the flavor of what it is served with such as beef or chicken. We Have many letters from customers that love the rice. At the present time, this rice is marketed in 2lb bags and packed in boxes of six and fifteen. The rice is also packed in 25 and 50 lb bags.
